Rapid Multiplication through Immature Bulbil Cultures of Garlic

Abstract

|
|
The immature bulbils of garlic cv. ´Euiseong´ and ´Namdo´ were cultured on MS medium supplemented with NAA and BAP for rapid propagation. High yield of shoot were produced from ´Euiseong´ cultured on the medium containing BAP alone. However, formation of multi-shoot from ´Euiseong´ was lower than that from ´Namdo´, especially in the combination of 2.0 ㎎/ℓ NAA and 4.0 ㎎/ℓ BAP. Callus formation from immature bulbils was observed when the bulbils were cultured on the medium supplemented with 2, 4-D. Upon subculture on the media without 2,4-D, the calli were regenerated to shoot and root. The concentration of virus was dramatically decreased in the plantlets derived from below 0.5 ㎜ of the size.
